About Dr Bhakti Devi
Trained as Civil & Environmental Engineer, Bhakti has a doctorate (PhD) in Urban Water and therefore those who know her passion for water and her water achievements call her the Urban Water Doctor :-).
Bhakti has been working as Water Professional for past 30 years. She started her career as process engineer - designing rainwater harvesting and water & sewage treatment processes.
Then, she went on to create greater impact by undertaking water audits of residential, commercial, industrial and institutional buildings and helping them become more water efficient and self sufficient reducing their need to import water. She has advised many cities and companies in helping their customers and communities to become water smart and water wise.
Having worked 25 years of her professional life in Australia - one of the driest countries in the world, she returned to India in 2017 with the vision of creating a water abundant & thriving India.
After doing independent on-ground research from 2017-2020 to understand first hand the water challenges faced by urban India & rural India, Dr Bhakti founded a water impact NGO called Jal Smruti Foundation in 2021.
Dr Bhakti seeks to realize her vision by enabling a decentralised water ecosystem that connects water users & reliable providers of solutions while educating the water users about the solutions that are relevant to their property. The ecosystem led & enabled by Urban Water Doctor is expected to result in accelerated uptake and implementation of solutions that significantly enhance the water security of individual properties.
